WordCamp Asia Extends Speaker Application Deadline to September 8, 2024

The WordCamp Asia organizing team has extended the speaker application deadline to September 8, 2024. This extension aims to give more WordPress enthusiasts the opportunity to apply for the prestigious event.

One of the three flagship WordCamps, WordCamp Asia, will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila, Philippines, from February 20 to 22, 2025.

Interested speakers can choose from the five session formats the organizing team has planned:

  • Lightning Talk (10 minutes for talk only. No Q&A)
  • Panel Discussions/Fireside Chat (60 minutes including Q&A)
  • Long Talk (Individual) (40 minutes – 30 minutes for talk + 10 minutes for Q&A)
  • Joint Talk (Two Speakers) (40 minutes – 30 minutes for talk + 10 minutes for Q&A)
  • Workshops (90 minutes to half a day)

All presentations must be delivered in English, and speakers can submit up to two proposals. To ensure inclusivity and diversity, the organizers aim to feature approximately 60% local (Asian) speakers and 40% non-male speakers.

Speakers can choose topics ranging from business and marketing, community and people, design, and development to personal WordPress stories. As the organizing team notes, “By speaking at WordCamp, you have the chance to inspire and empower others in the community. Your story might encourage someone to start their own WordPress journey, tackle a difficult project, or contribute to the community in their own way… The WordPress community values diverse perspectives and experiences, and even if you’re not a seasoned professional, your story has value.”

The organizers have also introduced the Underrepresented Speaker Support Initiative to assist potential speakers, particularly from underrepresented groups, by removing financial barriers. Speakers can email  asia-speakers@wordcamp.org for support.

Potential speakers can also explore the 60-minute workshop created by the WordPress Diverse Speaker Training group and join the Slack channel #diverse-speaker-support in the main WordPress Slack to connect with other speakers from marginalized and underrepresented groups.
